The Tewkesbury Flood of 2007

With both the River Severn and River Avon in spate, flooding at Tewkesbury was inevitable.

The impacts of the 2007 flood:-

  • 150,000 people lost mains drinking water in Gloucestershire.
  • 10,000 homes were flooded.
  • 3,500 businesses were flooded.
  • 1.5 billion pounds worth of damage(via insurance claims) was estimated to have taken place by the floodwaters along the River Severn.
  • 1 year later, several hundred houses are still not repaired in Tewkesbury.

This was at risk of being flooded as the pulse of floodwaters travelling down the River Severn and River Avon combined with a tidal surge. Severn Trent Water and The Royal Logistic Corps worked to erect a temporary flood barrier and maintain water supply until the flood risk abaited.
